Before the first call

Bookkeepers Dallas hears these questions before the first call.

Steven Palmieri, a Tax CFO and the Entrepreneur's CFO, answers questions about the books, payroll setup, and the return.

The short answers are here. The one that is actually yours can go in the note. One question is enough to start.

Can the month still be open

Yes. Closing it comes first. A guess about an open month would only have to be undone. Send the last month you trust, even if that month is older than you wish.

Who runs payday

Payday stays with a payroll provider you keep. We can help set that provider up in the first month. Once it is running, payday stays with you. The close does not become a payroll department.

Who prepares the return

We can prepare it from the books we keep. Whether we prepare it is a choice you make on that call. The return follows closed months. It does not invent a year the bank has not agreed to.

Can Sunday be the close

Yes. Thursday on the home page is a picture of a sample week. A clinic that sees patients all week can close on Sunday night. The other days, including Monday morning, stay with the owner.

Does a mentor meeting replace the close

No. SCORE mentors owners in Dallas for free, and the North Texas SBDC at Dallas College coaches them too. Keep those meetings if they help. They are not the close. This site does not rank bookkeepers, and it does not sneer at free help. The Lockhart line in Bishop Arts is a line we will gladly share. Brisket does not match a deposit to the bank, so the month stays open until that match is done.

Do I give up the login

No. You stay the admin. The login we use is only the one you decide to share. The password, and the ability to change that access, stay with you.

What if a lender wants a signed report

The disclosures page names the reports this practice does not sign. We will say that on the first call and point that part outward. The books can still be made ready.

Is this a loan, or a promised result

No. Nothing here is a loan, and nothing here promises a tax result. The work is the close, the return from that close, and a straight answer about choices that are still open.

Do I have to drive in

No. The close can be a screen share. The city covers a wide stretch of ground, and the work does not get better because you crossed it. Deep Ellum, Bishop Arts, and a Stemmons office can all keep their own Tuesdays.

Have the last month you trust in mind before you write. If a date is the reason, name it. The sales tax morning, the property list, and the May franchise report are the three that come up most. You do not need a full set of statements on the first note.

What the first note should hold

Send the last month you trust, the question you want answered, and any date already on your calendar. A long history can wait until we are looking at the file together. Those three facts tell us whether the first job is catch up, a return, or a filing that is close.

If payroll is the question, say whether a provider is already running. Setup can live in the first month. After that, payday stays on the provider, and the monthly work stays the close.

If a lender has already asked for a signature on the statements, put that in the first note. We point that part outward before we talk about the month. The file behind that lender request can still be made ready in this office. One honest month is a better start than a tidy story on top of a guess. We would rather have that one true month than a folder that only looks finished.
